Dermatology for Dogs and Cats
A detailed history, a careful physical skin exam and targeted diagnostic methods (swabs, skin scrapings) for the most common skin conditions:
The skin is often the first place something shows up — whether the cause is external (a parasite) or internal (an allergic reaction). The two aren't always distinguishable to the naked eye, so a skin sample is examined under the microscope on site when needed.
This service is for pets that are scratching, losing fur or showing skin changes — not for surgical or dental problems, which have their own dedicated pages.
What dermatology includes
A detailed history — when the change started, whether it's seasonal, whether it's spreading, whether the pet is scratching or biting — points the exam toward the likely cause.
A physical skin exam shows the distribution and appearance of the changes, visible parasites, and the general condition of the coat and skin.
Swabs and skin scrapings are taken and examined under the microscope in the clinic, to confirm the cause — parasites (fleas, ticks, demodex, mange mites) or allergic manifestations of the skin and related organs.

When an Exam Is Needed
Call the clinic if you notice any of the following in your dog or cat:
- frequent scratching, chewing or licking of the skin
- visible parasites (fleas, ticks) or signs of their presence
- patchy hair loss
- redness, flaking or other skin changes
- recurring ear infections as part of an allergic reaction

- Yes. The clinic treats both dogs and cats.
- Are you open on Sundays?
- Our regular hours are Mon–Fri 10am–2pm and 4pm–7pm, Saturday 10am–1pm. Outside opening hours and on Sundays, emergencies are handled by phone. We're reachable 24/7.
